On Sunday, Nov. 11, Steve was heading into work. I had been worried about him because it had snowed earlier that weekend, but the roads were clear with no problems. I was crazy busy with dinner and kids and Kiana had a baptism preview for her upcoming baptism (in a year, just preparing all the kids for next year).
I went to the church and turned off my phone because who wants to hear the phone go off in the middle of a prayer or talk?!? We listened, learned, had cookies, and headed home. Just as we were sitting down to eat lasagna, Steve and his parents came in the door. Going through my head for a split second as I heard the keys turn in the lock was opps Steve mixed up his days at work, and then his parents followed him through the door.
Steve's tire blew right as he was turning on the ramp from I-80, getting on SR201. He lost control and hit the cement barriers. With the first hit he blacked out and doesn't remember anything for about 10 minutes. His car hit on the front drivers side, did a 180 and hit on the back passengers side. The airbags deployed, thankfully, and he was wearing a seatbelt. A nice family in a SUV pulled over and helped him out of the car and let him sit in their car until the cops arrived. He doesn't remember walking over, the first he remembers is sitting in the SUV with the wife asking him if he remembered anything.
Once the cops arrived, he went in their car and the family left. He feels bad he couldn't properly thank them. The cops filled out a report, he tried, unsuccessfully to get ahold of me, called work, his parents and was checked out by the EMT's. With the memory loss, they wanted him to go to the ER. His parents got there and took him. He had a concussion, some stitches on the inside of his lower lip, and a bruised arm and chest area and was told to ice his arm for a few days and take off work for a few. That's it! It could have been so much worse. The car is totaled and insurance has been great. We are down a car until we buy a new one and that has been hard with my hubby's crazy schedule, but we can manage. We are so thankful that all in all we are all safe and happy and things turned out for the best in the situation.
